EXPO Milano 2015 – So, What is it all about?
Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life is the core theme of Expo Milano 2015:
“Food as nourishment
Food as pleasure
Food as taste
Food as home
Food as family
Food as art
Food as war
Food as peace
Food as affection
Food as love
People argue for food
People fight for food,
People work for food”
So, it’s all about FOOD.
The event is an opportunity to reflect upon and seek solutions to the world’s contradiction related to food: On the one hand, there are approximately 1.3 billion tons of food that are wasted every year, and millions of people (2.8 million in 2010-2012) dying from diseases related to obesity. And, on the other hand, there are millions of people dying from hunger and from diseases related to undernourishment (870 million people in 2010-2012). Expo Milano 2015 will be a window for 145 participating countries to show concrete answers to a vital need: “being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium.”
A unique journey to experience the planet’s food, cultures, traditions, and flavours in a backdrop of outstanding architecture. The main issues addressed are agriculture, sustainable development, and the struggle to combat hunger for the common good. The main key words are: innovation, energy conservation, environmental protection, and natural resources. The main protagonists are 145 participating countries, but the Expo also involves international organizations, civil society organizations, and corporate.
